Land & People AcknowledgementWe acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory—the rightful, traditional and ancestral territory of the Cree (Nehiyawok), Dene, Blackfoot (Nitsitapi), Saulteaux and Nakota Sioux as well as being home to many Inuit people throughout history. I acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Settlements and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Regions 2, 3 and 4 within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland. We further acknowledge that education, which should be a right and a blessing, has too often been weaponized and used to bolster and enforce a system that was harmful to others. Schools and places of learning which should have been safe spaces were instead places of trauma and hardship that sought to undo traditional ways of knowing and doing and subjected anyone who was perceived as different to generations of degradation and trauma. It is the hope of us here at E2 Academy to assist in undoing some of those wrongs by helping school be a place where everyone feels they belong. |
