Our HistoryE2 Society for Twice-exceptional Learners was founded by a group of parents in 2015. These families were looking for alternatives to the public school system, as their children were thriving in those spaces because of their challenges to adapt to a traditional classroom setting. |
Mid-2015Founding a place for 2e students
The goal for our founding parents, was to create a school environment where 2e learners are welcomed, can become members of a community of peers, and are encouraged to pursue their passions while still being exposed to a well-rounded curriculum. E2 Academy opened to students in September 2015. |
2015A humble beginningIn 2015, the school began with one teacher and seven students. That same year our organization was accredited by the Alberta Education and today we are functioning under the the rules and regulations of the Private School Regulation under the Education Act. This allows our students to be able to finish their credits in order to eventually graduate with a high school diploma. |
2016A first of its kindDuring 2016, E2 Academy became a charitable non-profit organization and began to receive funding from Alberta Education. Their mission was to establish a first-of-its kind-centre of excellence in Alberta for the education of 2e children with complex needs and to deliver a unique talent and strength-based program of instruction adapted to the needs of 2e learners. |
2019A thriving place for learningIn 2019, E2 Academy had 20 staff, 30 school students, 15 home school students and our goal is to keep growing in order to provide more services to new families and children in need of a specialized education. The students are benefiting from a strength-based program that offers individualized instruction to meet their intellectual, learning, and social-emotional needs. |
2020Becoming a DSEPSIn 2020 our application for becoming a Designated Special Education Private School was approved. This resulted in extra funding to serve students who are identified with a mild, moderate or severe disability. |
2024Looking towards the futureE2 Academy is at the forefront of special education, implementing best practices supported by evidence-based research. Our expert staff undergo ongoing professional development, specifically tailored to support and unlock the potential of our diverse 2e students. |
